Here it is, the world’s best cheddar as voted for at the World Cheese Awards in 2021.
Named after the pitchforks used to mix salt into the curds, this delicately made Somerset cheese has been a critical darling for years and continues to be a regular winner at the World Cheese Awards, even nabbing the Super Gold award, its highest honour, in 2022.

One taste of Pitchfork Cheddar will let you know the reason for its acclaim. Full-bodied and dense with a masterful creamy texture, this hard cheese has a remarkable ability to ramp up with each succulent bite, building an unbelievable amount of complexity, power, and longevity. Cheddars are often seen as a mild variety that escapes the cheeseboard, but Pitchfork Cheddar corrects the record.

MILK

Unpasteurised

Raw milk or unpasteurised milk is milk that has not been pasteurised, a process of heating liquid foods to kill pathogens for safe consumption and extending the shelf life.

A Word on Rennet & Rind Maturing

"I will hold on to this cheese and mirror the climate conditions in the Trethowan cellars to ensure the cheese can continue to develop."

Trethowan Brother's

Cheesemaking brothers Todd and Maugan Trethowan have been creating small batch, traditional cheeses for over 25 years. Originally known for their Gorwydd Caerphilly variety, the success of that cheese allowed them to build their own dairy, with milk sourced from their own single herd of cows. They chose 120 Holstein-Friesian cows for their high cream content, as well as the Jersey Cows which are used to make Pitchfork Cheddar. With the help of a small team, the Trethowan Brothers pride themselves on making everything hands-on, with no machinery.
